On the 18th December 2020, I had the pleasure of marrying Samuel and Elizabeth. These two soul mates chose to have an intimate wedding with their closest friend and family at Summergrove Estate Chapel.
I was lucky enough to get to know both of them over several months and get to learn about their love story.
Back in the day, Samuel and Elizabeth attended university classes together, although they did not talk they had mutual friends. Till one day they attended their mutual friend, James gathering and spoke for the first time. Elizabeth at that stage didn’t think much of Samuel. She thought he was loud, blunt and very argumentative! Samuel also thought Elizabeth was extremely loud but her looks did catch his eye.
Although first impressions didn’t hit an ultimate high. Samuel found ways to poke holes in Elizabeth serious side. And over a matter of dates they got to know each other’s serious and not so serious side. Samuel found a way to stop Elizabeth from taking herself too seriously and learn to laugh at herself and him of course.
Although Elizabeth initially thought Samuel was blunt and loud, she fell in love with how selfless he is and how he is always trying to make her happy. Elizabeth fell in love with Samuel’s soft and thoughtful interior, hidden beneath his matter of fact persona. His dreamy eyes and dark curly hair. How inquisitive he is, always learning and finding out new facts. How he is always surprising her with little treats, hidden presents or a new cocktail. Samuel also finds a way to always make a big deal out of Elizabeth birthday, their anniversary and Christmas – despite being indifferent to these celebrations himself.
Samuel fell in love with Elizabeth caring nature and how she puts her family first. She has helped him find a balance between friends and family. Elizabeth brings Samuel so much joy every day and he loves how she always smiles at him. He finds how she kisses him goodbye when he is still half asleep in the morning simply adorable. Samuel loves how Elizabeth dances and hums around the house. How she thinks her own jokes are funny when they are simply bizarre.
Their love story showed me regardless of your personality traits, every one has a soul mate and your perfect match could be the complete opposite to you. Your life partner will show you, your inner beauty, encourage you and help you grow to see the best version of you and life’s journey.
Inside Samuel’s reflection of Elizabeth and their journey
Elizabeth, Beth
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since we first met. From your beauty, which first stole my attention. Followed shortly afterwards by your volume, which rivals my own. But after the first impression, and a few subsequent impressions of a similar nature, I fell in love with your magnetic personality. Your enthusiasm towards everything in life, your practicality and organisation, plus your bizarre, unpredictable sense of humour are what I will be thinking about every day of our lives. Also, how good you look in that dress.
I love how impressed you are when I cook for you, fix something for you or buy you some shiny trinket or another. Even though your standards are easy to meet, I promise to never stop trying to impress you.
I love that you understand and embrace my flaws, and are always the biggest supporter of my strengths and accomplishments. You balance me perfectly, and I think this is what makes us such a great partnership.
We both lead busy, heavily choreographed lives, and I can’t see that slowing down any time soon. Despite this, I love how you make time for me, and to let me know how loved I am. I will always do the same for you, I will always old your hand, and I promise to never let you go to sleep grumpy.
Inside Elizabeth’s reflection of Samuel and their journey
Samuel, when I first met you, I foolishly thought we could never work. I thought we were way too different and had nothing in common, other than being argumentative law students who liked to flirt. My first impression of you was that you were forthright to a fault, you wore band t-shirts, you weren’t the romantic type, you despised pop music, you didn’t like Christmas or birthdays and you hated fruit. A disaster on paper!
You however weren’t put off by the fact we are stark opposites which I will forever be grateful for. While we weren’t perfect on paper it quickly became apparent we were a perfect match in real life, in all the ways that matter. While we are very different, we complement and bring out the very best in each other and we have grown together as a couple to create a wonderful life together.
You have shown me what it means to be in a truly loving and equal partnership. From the very beginning you have been supportive, reliable, selfless and caring. You are continuously focused on my happiness and surprising me – whether that be little sweet treats or making me a surprise birthday feast. You never fail to humour me on every anniversary, valentines day, easter, birthday or Christmas. Your practicality balances out my heightened emotions, and you challenge me and push me out of my comfort zone – also known as Brisbane.
While most people would consider you to be very blunt and assertive, the Sam I get to wake up to everyday is a massive softie and extremely patient. While I didn’t think you were romantic at first, as you have pointed out, what is more romantic than getting married? Thank you loving me for exactly who I am, for embracing my family and your role as future son-in-law, for going above and beyond to keep me fed and happy, and for choosing me to be your wife.
Words from me
Together you have changed each other’s life for the better. You share a balanced, healthy and loving partnership which is only going to grow from this day forward. It is my pleasure to marry two best friend and soul mate. Thank you for choosing me as your celebrant and letting me not only marry you but share your journey to becoming husband and wife.
Love your marriage celebrant Jessica
