Why have a professional wedding MC for your day?
Emcee or what most people refer to as ‘Wedding MC’ has a very important role to play in your wedding day.
What does MC stand for and what do they actually do?
MC = Master of Ceremonies. And that’s really true – the person that you choose to be your MC is the Director of Good Times.
One of the important task of a wedding MC’s is to keep the formalities rolling, making sure wedding is on time and that all your guests are well informed as to what’s happening, key housekeeping rules and introducing you and the bridal party, speeches, first dance, cake cutting etc etc. But it also about being an EXCEPTIONAL entertainer, making your guest feel involved in your wedding, getting those dance feet warm and having a good time.
So what does a wedding MC actually do? What is their role?
🎤 Help usher your guests from the ceremony to the reception
🎤 Welcome everyone at the reception
🎤 Lay down any housekeeping (e.g. where to find important things like the bar and the bathrooms, plus any do’s and don’t’s – including social media if you’re keen to keep things offline until you’ve had a chance to post something yourselves)
🎤 Welcome you (Mr & Mrs) and the bridal party into the reception once guest are seated
🎤 Say some lovely words about the you
🎤 Introduce speeches (I like to add fondest memories of speaker)
🎤 Be a point of liaison for wedding vendors whether wedding coordinator, musician, photographer
🎤 Advise guest to be seated when food is being served
🎤 Announce moments like a cake-cutting or first dance
🎤 Maybe even play some games (have you heard of the shoe game?)
🎤 Get the party started on the dance floor
🎤 Announce the garter toss and bouquet toss (if doing)
🎤 Announce final drinks if appropriate
🎤 Announce the farewell of the couple, or arrival of transport to take guests home (essentially, wrap it up)
🎤 BUT NUMBER ONE key I think is ensuring you and your guest are having an absolute blast
If you think that sounds like a lot, you ain’t wrong.
So who should MC your wedding is the golden question?
This can be a really fun gig and great to have someone close to you who knows you and can tell all those juicy stories. Someone who loves to talk and can engage anyone and everyone. But it also can be a dam hard gig and a lot of pressure on a guest member to MC. Although they are honoured they may not relax till all the formalities are over (I know my brother didn’t and he is a actor) or they may relax too much and have too many beverages (which I have heard a lot of from fellow wedding coordinators).
But seriously there is no wrong or right answer here you can have;
A) Someone close to both of you, like a friend or family member, or
B) A professional that does MC-ing as a job. And that is where I come in!
Unforgettable wedding memories created with the help of your wedding MC.
